How does your facility handle male US techs who work alone?

Our department has a new male overnight tech (we'll call him John). Like most general departments, we do a lot of transvaginal ultrasounds, especially overnight. So the procedure we have set up for John is that when he calls the emergency department for a transvaginal patient, they're supposed to send a female chaperone along with the patient. This can be a nurse, nurse aide, or whoever as long as they're a female employee.

Apparently this has caused a lot of friction since John's personality is a bit...standoffish. I'm not really sure why his personality even matters since this is just business, but I've heard from numerous people in the ultrasound and emergency departments that nobody wants to bring him transvaginal patients. They don't like the inconvenience of a busy employee being gone for half an hour per patient, and the chaperones apparently don't care for him as a person.

It's not my problem to solve since I'm just another US tech in the department lol, but I'm curious about how other facilities handle this situation.

Do rad techs/sonographers deal with vomit often?

Hi there! I’m currently considering going to school to be a rad tech or sonographer but I’m struggling to find out if you guys deal with vomit a lot. I am emetophobic (phobia of vomit) and, while I think I’d like these jobs a lot, it does worry me to think about having to deal with it often. Thank you for your help! submitted by /u/pootscoot1 [link] [comments] source https://www.reddit.com/r/Radiology/comments/p5y0aa/do_rad_techssonographers_deal_with_vomit_often/
