Possible remote career opportunities? (Degree in Radiography, certificate in MRI)

Due to a change in family circumstances, I would like to try and be home as often as possible, in case of an emergency regarding an ill parent. I've done some research with varying results in an attempt to search for a remote career opportunity in this field. I'm not against going for some further certification if it means new possible opportunities. I've seen listings for remote service engineering for Mri/CT scanners, but most I am not qualified for. Are there some other opportunities I should keep an eye out for? I appreciate any feedback. submitted by /u/NoToRedditApp [link] [comments] source https://www.reddit.com/r/Radiology/comments/j2y3c8/possible_remote_career_opportunities_degree_in/

Legal question concerning operation of C-arm fluoroscopy

Apologies if I’m posting in the wrong sub, but I’m wondering what kind of penalties would come of a surgical technologist (not radiological tech) who is not credentialed in radiology, operated a c arm and shot x rays on a patient before a surgical case because of being impatient. The nurse and the surgical tech were not wearing lead either. I was in the room but was protected with lead. It’s concerning to me because this tech thinks it’s okay to overstep her scope of practice. This is in Minnesota. And I’m curious if there are any malpractice penalties or anything concerning patient safety too. submitted by /u/sbb_214 [link] [comments] source https://www.reddit.com/r/Radiology/comments/j2e007/legal_question_concerning_operation_of_carm/

Practicing Radiography Abroad (???)

Hi there and good (insert time of day) I apologize if my questions happen to be stupid and unfitting of the sub but it seems like the appropriate place. I am currently in college (US) as a pre-med this semester, beginning my Radiography program in the spring, and I believe it is a 22-month program. After course completion and AART/other relevant certifications I would very much enjoy visiting the EU for an extended amount of time, I'm looking at around a year or so, and I would enjoy it even more if I could somehow have a job at a hospital/clinic overseas and what extra qualifications or special permissions I would have to get. I've spent hours looking into Italy, and many of the job postings happen to require "TSRM" which I believe is basically the Italian version of the AART, however, to be a part of it it seems I'd have to graduate from an Italian university for a radio tech program. I've spent a smaller amount of hours looking into Spain, and I found b

Best place to share patients MRI/CT etc for telemedicine

I need to share DICOM images of my mum's scans with some doctors remotely. We have the CD's and the DICOM files, and I thought the best way would be to setup a server that hosts the images and has a built in viewer so that the doctor only clicks on a link. Are there any open source solutions that let me do that? Ideally, I'd setup my own AWS server, install the solution, upload my files, set permissions, and give the doctor a link. Through the link the doctor would be able to look at the scans What about cloud based services? I found dicomlibrary.com to be very useful, but is it safe and secure? Rad Tech in CA no longer recognized by ARRT

Hello, I hope my fellow techs are well through all this craziness, first time posting but need help if anyone is in the know on this... I was a limited scope tech/MA for a good while working to get the experience to let me into a bridge program, I went to PMI for that and am now a rad tech. At the beginning of this year, I had to do my CE credits for the first time since going from limited scope to rad tech, I completed my CE and sent the credits in to the CA rad org. The state recognizes me as certified, but I called ARRT and realized sometime after I had tested out to get my rad tech license (which was also when I had moved to a new apartment and never received a notice to update) but I never updated registration with them after. I called ARRT and they said I would have to take the state board test again to be recognized by the ARRT because it had been some amount of time since I paid and updated my CE with them even though I’ve never missed credits with my state. Is it illegal for patients to take pictures of their own x-rays?

We use a digital portable x-ray, and the other day a patient asked if she could take a picture of her chest x-ray from the portable. A tech told her "No, that's illegal". Also, techs sometimes refuse to let patients even SEE their xrays from the portable, even if they aren't taking picures. I have some doubts about this actually being illegal. After all, patients can see their ultrasounds and fluoro studies as they are being performed. How is xray any different? If anyone can point me to credible sources about this, I'd appreciate it. What % of patient have each? 2) Who is making a decision on - when to calculate - which imaging modality to use for assessment of total kidney volume (TKV), which predicts kidney function deterioration? (GP/nephrologist/on radiologist advice)? Many thanks for the consideration. submitted by /u/chalwanna [link] [comments] source https://www.reddit.com/r/Radiology/comments/ixb7dg/imaging_in_autosomal_dominant_polycystic_kidney/

Radiological technologist

I’m 19 years old and I wanna be a rad tech in Oregon. I currently live in California though. If I complete a rad tech program here in California would In Be certified in Oregon as well? Would I just have to take a test to be certified in a different state or would the only way be to have to completed a rad tech program in the state I wanna work in. (I hate the sun and I wanna move to Portland Where cloudy and rainy 24/7). submitted by /u/beeswaxe [link] [comments] source https://www.reddit.com/r/Radiology/comments/ix9qie/radiological_technologist/

Anyone else doing these routinely? We’re doing DECT more and also do some more nifty post-processing stuff too.

Radiologists: Do you routinely review scout images?

Hi Raddit, long time lurker here. Straw poll for the radiologists. A recent case (not mine thankfully) has me wondering whether radiologists around the world routinely review scout (aka scanogram/topogram/localizer) images during their CT or MR dictations? Discussion: Are these included in your PACS workflow and readily available for review? Concerns for the Registry - any ideas?

To start off, I take my registry on October 1st, in 10 days from now, and I'm kinda worried. I've mostly been using Lange's Q&A Radiography Examination, and in both the practice tests, I just barely fail. I feel like I know almost all the stuff I should (sans some fluoro stuff and dose limits), but I keep losing points on the small technicalities of questions or on things we never learned about in my courses (cough cough CT questions). I think I just need some advice. Is Lange's Q&A just harder/more tricky than the actual examination? Should I be looking to other study materials? Heck, should I move my test back a few weeks? It's just really demoralizing to work so hard on this and then see that the book says you won't pass. Any and all advice welcome encouraging words too... submitted by /u/Sapper501 [link] [comments] source https://www.reddit.com/r/Radiology/comments/ix4bez/concerns_for_the_registry_any_ideas/

Is this an acceptable community for patient to ask a question?

Hello, not sure if it's okay for me to post here. Didn't know where else to go for this. This is a patient's question (I'm the patient). I just had an MRI not long ago and the radiologists did a cervical/thoracic scan, no contrast...I'm 35, female, 120 lbs, no smoking. The readings came back with "slight smooth kyphosis of C5-C6, borderline degenerative disc disease if the same joint with associated bulging, and from C-3 to C7 there was partial disc desiccation. It freaked me out and don't know how to translate that. The only thing that stood out to me in the scan was that the white part of my spinal cord was narrower and the curve looked like it was pushing into it. No hernias, stenosis, they said either. Is this a bad sign? Not sure if it's normal for my age. Should I give up things I used to enjoy like running and such? I don't want to make this worse. Anyway, if this is in the wrong community, sorry. Thanks. submitted by /u/Individual-Ask

Anyone else getting crushed by Call?

I work FT in a small hospital. Call is required as part of my position, since we do not have a night tech. The department is understaffed for its growing patient volume. My manager likes it this way as his staffing numbers look really good, and he is always under budget (which is reflected in his end-of-the year bonus). We are required to work our 40 hours, then cover the Call. Typically, this is two 15 hour shifts per week. When employees are sick or on FMLA (as is currently the case), we are scheduled to do more -- we are not asked! Some nights I may have 0 exams, while other nights I've had as many 12 exams. Two to three per night seems to be the norm. The pay is good, although Call and Callbacks (2 hrs of OT) are not considered by the hospital to be Worked hours. We don't accrue Sick or Vacation time for those 30+ hours a week of Call. We see it as having to work 140 hours per pay period , whereas our manager sees it as only working 80 hours per pay period. In my mind, i

which MRI sequences to send??? (new tech)

new MRI tech here, covid kicked me out of clinicals for 4.5 months and i just recently finished my ARRT comps. I'm doing pretty well in the scanning side of MRI, however when it comes to sending the sequences i get really confused on which ones to send. water? fat? what are these other ones generated by the computer? i know it's mostly site-specific but there are just a lot of different small things that need to be done for almost every exam that makes me feel discouraged. for those of you who are semi-new techs, how did you go about learning which ones to send? As i'm writing this out i just thought of an idea. should i go into PACS and write down the sequences that are there into a book? I don't know. thanks for reading, any tips would be appreciated. submitted by /u/thinkingtrees [link] [comments] source https://www.reddit.com/r/Radiology/comments/ivyxgg/which_mri_sequences_to_send_new_tech/

ct scan question about Dye

I had a ct scan and the dye was already ready when I got in the room, is there anything that stops a tech from accidentally using the same tube for the dye and the same line that goes to IV ? I would have preferred if it was prepared in front of me because I have contamination OCD. submitted by /u/flyovercountry3030 [link] [comments] source https://www.reddit.com/r/Radiology/comments/iw3k6j/ct_scan_question_about_dye/
