I often see it stated that manification mammography requires a higher dose than contact. I can understand this if using screen film image receptors with the same speed film, but it doesn't make sense for digital mammography. Same object level noise will mean same dose regardless of magnification. Higher dose is only required if same pixel level noise is needed. Can anyone help explain why it is taught that the higher dose is a disadvantage of magnification?
