So I'm a current R3 who just took the June 2021 ABR Core exam and feel pretty terrible about it. I've heard from people in other classes at my residency that that's normal, but am super stressed so wanted to ask if anyone has any ideas that helped them handle the waiting period for the results.
So my R3 class had to cover call (we are talking 2-3 weekends in one month) and nights up until early March 2021 as the R4 test got postponed multiple times and we are a very high volume residency/many services can not function without residents, so we had very little call-free study time. So I went into the test feeling less prepared than I would have liked, and in part because of that just didn't really sleep more than 3 or so hours each night before the test and ran out of time on the last section (and was super stressed, probably like most other people taking the test). I can think of tons of questions I knew the answers to and could answer without hesitation now/without test taking/sleep deprivation conditions, but talked myself out of. For me, the waiting game for the Core result release is so much more stressful than that after Step 1 (granted I was able to go to the beach after Step 1 and after the Core I had to go straight back to work the next day, and with Step 1, UWorld %ile and practice tests can give you an idea of where your score will fall, and it seems hard to predict who passes or fails the core). Basically just asking if:
-anyone has any ideas that helped them stay sane during the waiting period, because I feel like I'm losing my sanity and a lot of sleep (but work 2 weeks straight on this rotation so I don't have options for vacation, etc.)
-did anyone notice a correlation between things like Board Vitals percentiles and passing the test? Or feeling like you missed lots of questions? I know I won't actually know the results until the ABR releases them. I don't know my R3 DXIT results and was >240 on Step 1 and Step 2 (just mentioning those because those were mentioned in an article as predictive of pass/fail). I also know that I won't actually know until the results are back.
-does anyone know what "if a candidate meets or exceeds the passing threshold when all categories are scored together" actually means? can you be below 350 on 1 section? 2? And if so, do you have to be far enough above on other sections to make up for it? I think another stressor is that I don't really understand their scoring method beyond the Angoff and there are really smart people from my residency and others who have failed the test.
Anyway, sorry for the long post and thanks for reading. Sending my thoughts to everyone else who took the test and wishing the best for you all!
