My son recently had an x-ray to determine his bone age. He only grew 1 inch in the last year (average is 2-3 inches for his age) and fell significantly on his growth curve. He also hasn’t gained much weight. His pediatrician didn’t seem concerned but agreed to do some testing. The radiology report we received had his age as just “7” throughout the report even though he was 7 years, 8 months when the test was done. His bone age was determined to be between 5-6 years of age. The radiologist determined this was within normal limits, but I’m wondering if this is accurate since he didn’t consider his specific age and the bone is is such a wide range. Now his pediatrician won’t refer us to endocrinology since the report says “within normal limits.” Does anyone have any experience with bone age tests/dictation and help me determine if we need a 2nd opinion?
