I’m a little less than halfway thru my 2-year rad tech program (less-than-halfway due to covid). We were just notified that we are allowed to return to clinicals after 4 months off. During that time I had a lot of time to think, and my mind started to question if this was a good career choice. I’m 30 years old, I was a massage therapist for 6 years before starting rad tech school. I made about $35k/year and decided to change paths because there is no upward mobility aside from owning your own business which I am 100% confident I don’t want to do. I live in the Midwest (madison, wi) Is this a pointless career to start at my age? I’ve read so many mixed comments...tons of room for growth, no room for growth. Terrible pay, great pay. I’m feeling so lost and unsure. I’ve never been in a hospital setting, only a clinic, so have a somewhat limited view of what this is really like as a job. I know many of the standard arguments...cross-train to earn more money, etc. I just have no idea if I will enjoy this and be financially comfortable doing this full-time, and if it will be sustainable long-term :(
