Studying to become radiographer in USA, but want to move to Canada. How is it there? It's difficult to tell with just googling and not having lived there

I picked this career because it had part-time capabilities. More so than majority of USA jobs which seems to only be full time. But i'm seeing some people mention canada taxes are stronger and more overcrowded of techs. Then again, I heard same thing about overcrowded here, but plenty of others saying thats bs. The negative voice is louder and harder to tell what it's actually like. It doesn't have to be main cities. More taxes is fine if you pay less for other insurances and such. Wouldnt that balance out? submitted by /u/zph0eniz [link] [comments] source https://www.reddit.com/r/Radiology/comments/gu9qj4/studying_to_become_radiographer_in_usa_but_want/

Need Advice on Applying to Rad Tech Program

I’m 19 and I graduated high school in 2019 with (unfortunately) a 2.5 gpa due to depression hitting me hard, especially after my mom’s passing in 2017. My priorities were screwed up but I’m trying to get back on the right path now. I’ve been interested in getting my associates degree and becoming a rad technician through one of the several community colleges I’ve been looking into. The program generally seems to be quite competitive so I really want to do as much as I can to improve my chances of getting in. So, I was wondering, would it be helpful/worth it to gain clinical experience (and certificate or diploma) as a medical assistant for a year or two before applying to the radiography program? Or would A’s and B’s in my prereqs likely be enough to get me in? I haven’t taken my prereqs yet which I know I’m going to have to do before I apply, but when I do take them I’m going to be aiming for all A’s of course submitted by /u/mxsangre [link] [comments] source https://www.

What accreditation does CT or MRI certification need to have?

Looking at a radiography program at a local community college in Arizona that is JRCERT accredited but does not offer certification for CT or MRI. How do I get certified for CT and MRI from an accredited place if the community college doesn’t offer these certification programs? Do you get them online? Through another school? Or would it be better in the long run to get all of these certifications at the same institution meaning look at other radiography programs? Don’t want to waste time and money going through a program if I’ll end up having to retake these certification classes from a more accredited program. Also! If I go through the JRCERT program in Arizona, and pass the ARRT certification process, am I able to take that certification anywhere if I plan to move states? Understanding "Exposure" DICOM tags and their relations

Hello everyone, Would love to get your help on something (couldn't find the answer in the sub history). For the following DICOM tags related to Exposure - what are the exact units for each of them (e.g. mili Amper second, micro Amper, etc.): Exposure Exposure time X-Ray Tube Current What is the formula that connects these values? I was guessing it should be - Exposure = Exposure time * Tube Current, but this formula doesn't hold for the values I'm seeing inside the DICOM. Is this formula completely off? Or just missing normalization values, and which? submitted by /u/louis_imad [link] [comments] source https://www.reddit.com/r/Radiology/comments/gti3a6/understanding_exposure_dicom_tags_and_their/

What positioning do you guys use for a Swimmers view of the cervical?

This view has been my Achilles heel. I do it as explained in the handbook but either the humerus is in the way or the body is too thick and comes out underexposed. Now that I think about it. Maybe it’s better lying down on the table instead of doing it upright. How do you guys get it to look good? I’m only asking because I’ve tried several ways to no avail. Right shoulder as low as possible, left arm up. Left arm up and forward. Both shoulders as relaxed and low as possible. Xray shot at exhalation. I can’t get it. This is for patients with thick shoulders. Short necks. The ones where you only get up to C5 or barely C6 but C7 completely hidden. Sometimes the radiologists want to see T1 as well which makes it harder. submitted by /u/xTechnologic [link] [comments] source https://www.reddit.com/r/Radiology/comments/gsuxsa/what_positioning_do_you_guys_use_for_a_swimmers/

CT scan with iodine contrast.

Hi, figured I’d post this here. I recently had to get a CT scan of abdomen with iodine contrast for the first time in my life (100cc Onnipaque 350, arm IV) and now freaking out that it may be causing some delayed allergic reaction. It’s been 6 days since the scan. I didn’t feel anything during the initial IV other than what the radiology technician said would happen (warmth, etc). Now I’m believing I’m experiencing some slight face tightness and mild itchiness. I’m sure it’s probably all related to my stress and anxiety in the first place, but curious if anyone can tell me some markers or signs to look out for. The technician told me that if I was allergic to the contrast in any way, I would basically know during the IV or shortly after, and that the symptoms would be severe (nausea, bad rash, etc). I have no known allergies. Appreciate any feedback and thank you in advance to the medical community for everything you are doing during COVID. submitted by /u/Vulc4nR4v3n [link]

Changing careers and looking into becoming a radiologist, need guidance!

Hello all! I hope this is the right community, and if not, please kindly direct me in the right direction to ask my question! So I went to college and graduated with my bachelors in German (was planning on teaching it) in December 2017. I’ve always had a itching to go into the medical field, but have always put it on the back burner. Now that I have realized that teaching German is not what I want to do, my husband has given me the green light to move forward with my dreams to go into the medical field. I want to become a radiologist, but I’m not sure where I should start. I don’t have many science related courses due to my previous degree, so I was considering attending my local community college to get an Associates in Science, and then use that knowledge to go into med school. Or should I go back for a more science related bachelors degree, and then go into med school after that? I tried to scour the Internet but there’s not many people in my position that I’ve been able to find

Bachelor’s in Radiologic Science

Hi everyone! So I’m currently an X-Ray tech, graduated last August. I wanted to take a break from school for some time to relax and really consider if I want to go back. I know I don’t want to go into really any other modality- I do genuinely enjoy x-ray and nothing else interests me as much. With that being said, is there any other post-primary degrees that focus on just x-ray besides a Bachelors? I enjoy learning and want to go further. Also, what are the pros/cons of getting a Bachelor’s? Pay, job difference, new career paths, etc. I have not yet met another tech who has a Bachelor’s for this. Please give me all info you have!! :) even if you think getting a Bachelor’s is a waste, please say that and why you think that way!! I truly do not want to spend a ton of money on a degree for it to be useless. Also any recommendations for online only programs are appreciated!!! submitted by /u/dlawson97 [link] [comments] source https://www.reddit.com/r/Radiology/comments/gry1

Criminal Background and Working in Healthcare

I have two misdemeanor charges on my record. One was for possession of marijuana and the other for public intoxication. Both of these took place about 8 years ago and I had the marijuana charge expunged. Did the ARRT ethics review and they said I'm still eligible for certification. How do I change my career to become an Ultrasound Technician specializing in prenatal care?

I'm 32 years old with an undergraduate degree in Communication Studies and Fine Arts. I took a course in Front-end Development a few years back and have been working in corporate offices for the past few years. Career possibilities?

I've been a rad tech for just about 5 years now. Six months ago I transferred within my health system from a small hospital that I enjoyed to a clinic for a supervisor position. I wasn't too fond of my new job before all of this caronavirus stuff (basically I'm not a huge fan of the site and don't feel as though I fit in with the staff) but now I've come to really dislike my job. Part of it is the added stress that was expected, and I'm not saying I can't handle my new position. I just don't enjoy it like I thought I would. Plus my department is at an uneasy time right now because a new radiology group is supposed to take over which could mean a new employer. As many techs know it's hard to land a full-time position as just an x-ray tech because of lack of positions and many places requiring multimodalities (I'vee never been interested in other modalities and like working in just x-ray). I'm starting to think that maybe some sort of career c

How much time is required for an IMG radiologist from beginning of a job/training in UK to getting a specialist registration via the CESR route?

Hi It will be very kind of you if you can help me with the query on CESR. From what i have heard is that CESR is very tedious process requiring submitting tons of documents as evidence of capabilities and skills. It is the key determinant of time required by IMG specialist from joining in UK to getting specialist registration. How much time is required on an average for a IMG radiologist who has just started working in UK to acquire all the required capabilities and skills and document them as evidence and submit it for CESR? I know this is a very subjective question and involves departmental support and other things. I’m 26 and already have a bachelors degree, but in a completely unrelated field to radiology. I’m wanting to go back to college to pursue a career in the field, but am having trouble deciding what job to aim for. I’m honestly bad at math and science which has kind of scared me from the field, but I’ve been interested in the brain and nervous system since I was a kid. Long story, but for nearly two decades before I got into medical school I knew I wanted to be a surgeon. About a year or two before I matriculated, I had to get major surgery and realized that I wouldn't really like that path for a number of reasons. But, the majority of what I had actually been excited about (the anatomy, needing broad/multi-specialty knowledge, cool technology, etc) I can easily find in Radiology! And I've been a major radiology nerd ever since. One thing I miss about intending to go into surgery, however, is that there are a lot of YouTube videos where you can watch full surgeries and really learn a lot in the process and give you some fuel for your motivation. I have been assured that Radiology does have regular patient contact (which I'm happy about!), but other than I.R., I'm not sure what kind of procedures someone who is primarily intending to go into DR would do. So I guess I have three questions: What face-to-face procedures/exams/etc mig

Short rad tech

PACS admin.

This may be a long shot, but I'm curious if you fine professionals have anything to contribute to my question. I am a MRI/Xray tech and I am interested in moving into PACS. How would you suggest I do that? Are there organizations like ARRT? Is there schooling for it? submitted by /u/k3464n [link] [comments] source https://www.reddit.com/r/Radiology/comments/gp15pi/pacs_admin/

Power Injection Question.

I work at a larger hospital and just had to power inject a CTA Head/Neck through an EJ IV as a last resort of sorts, and, while it isn't against our protocol, it freaked me the fuck out. This was my first time doing it and it doesn't sit well at all with me. I insisted the RN to accompany the patient and documented the hell out of everything but I just can't get the situation out of my mind. I am curious to get everyone's insights. Might reach out to our lead about reevaluating the protocol... and I'm wondering what you folks think about injecting through an EJ? Thanks in advance:) submitted by /u/Violetvalley [link] [comments] source https://www.reddit.com/r/Radiology/comments/gozp07/power_injection_question/

How viable is it to go into the medical radiologic technologist field?

Hey there im currently about to take my pre req's for this course at my community college. It's a two year program and they accept 39 applications out of 80-100. Pregnant providers

Has anyone in IR as a provider ever been pregnant and had an issue with radiation exposure? Best radiology programs to apply to as a canadian IMG from a Caribbean school?

Trying to not live in NYC after so many redditors have warned me to avoid it like the plague. I'd like something south, decent cultural diversity, and just for god's sake, to be able to afford a decent apartment. Need J1/H1B as well btw. YES I HAVE LOOKED AT FREIDA, but half the states I want to go to, like Cali, have taken 1% of IMGs... submitted by /u/Drturbanator [link] [comments] source https://www.reddit.com/r/Radiology/comments/gosfka/best_radiology_programs_to_apply_to_as_a_canadian/

Unnatural hair colors/ tattoos in Rad

So I’m getting close to finishing up school and my clinical rotations (hopefully) in November. A good friend of mine in my program has quite a few visible tattoos and I had to dye my hair a natural color when I joined the program. I’ve joked about it here and there and I’m prepared to have to keep my hair normal but I’ve had friends and family say that a few hospitals are a lot more relaxed on these rules. I’m just curious if anyone in the field works at or knows somebody who works at a location like that. submitted by /u/MotherofDaleks [link] [comments] source https://www.reddit.com/r/Radiology/comments/gocd0k/unnatural_hair_colors_tattoos_in_rad/

DR vs IR vs Both

Rising M4 here! I’m planning on applying IR in the fall, but am confused by the changes that have come with the new integrated programs. I have tried finding information elsewhere, but it’s just difficult because they are so new. Is it typical to apply to both IR and DR? What about applying to both at the same program? The match rate in 2018 for IR was only 58%, so I feel like even the best applicant would be obligated to apply for both. Also, is a surgery year required for IR or is an IM prelim year acceptable? I understand there is value in still being in the OR for that year, but based on my surgery and IM clerkships I feel like I actually might learn more doing IM for a year. submitted by /u/futuredrkim [link] [comments] source https://www.reddit.com/r/Radiology/comments/go1oee/dr_vs_ir_vs_both/

Home radiology barco monitors

hey tech geniuses I'm looking for some advice. I'm thinking about setting up a home reading station with a used barco Monitor. Does anyone know if you need to use the barco GPU or can I just use my gaming GPU radeon RX 580? BS Radiology Programs

Does anyone know of a Bachelors program for Radiology that can be done online with your own clinical site for XRAY and/or CT when you do not already have an XRAY license. Documentation question

I'm going over some practice questions in preparation for my exam and I'm stumped by this particular question. A patient is about to go to the OR after your xrays, and you notice that the nurse administered something via IV, but they did not document it. As a technologist, what is your responsibility? A. Tell the radiologist B. Tell that nurse C. Call the OR nurse D. File an incident report. My natural instinct would be just to tell them? I don't think I would realistically be watching them type in their documentation. Or would you really need to file an incident report? submitted by /u/skeletonphotographer [link] [comments] source https://www.reddit.com/r/Radiology/comments/gnkitw/documentation_question/
