Radiology Book (Merrill’s Atlas)

Hello everyone, I’m a radtech student. I just wanna ask if there’s much difference between 12th and 13th edition Merrill’s Atlas of Radiographic Positioning & Procedure. Struggling with clinicals (at a crossroads)

Hey everyone, 2nd semester junior here in a 2 year program, and my class is nearing the end of this semester in a little over a month from now. We need 14 comps by the end of this semester, and I'm sitting at 10. I had 11, but my abdomen KUB comp was pulled by my clinical instructor because there are still things regarding positioning and centering and eval criteria/anatomy that I just don't seem to be getting the grasp of. To make matters worse, every single time my clinical instructor is at my site (which btw is every single week/every single clinical day) I get stressed out and anxious because I don't want to make too many mistakes. I've improved a ton with taking patient history and setting the room up and developing a work flow, and both the instructor and program director have said that the techs like my personality and have seen a vast improvement in my clinical performance now as opposed to several months ago. I've come out of my shell a whole lot and neve

Lead gowns on patient causing rebound within the gown?

I’ve heard theories that using a lead gown for a pregnant patient will increase their dose as the x-rays will rebound of the lead and scatter back inwards. Is there any research proving this? To the rad techs: How do you respond when someone says "You know that isn't the side that hurts" when you take a lateral?

I've had this happen several times lately and I want to find the right balance between "I have done this thousands of times and you have no idea how radiography works. So maybe trust the professional" and explaining to them that "x-rays pass all the way through the tissue so it would look nearly the same either way and this is the standard way of capturing a lateral image of this body part". submitted by /u/suicidejacques [link] [comments] source https://www.reddit.com/r/Radiology/comments/tpuoeq/to_the_rad_techs_how_do_you_respond_when_someone/

Getting into Radiology after a 2-year gap

Hi all. I graduated in August of 2020, and I'm trying to get my first X-ray job, but it seems all I can do is collect rejection letters, and I'm losing hope. Because of the pandemic, ailing parents, family issues, financial situations, and so on, I decided to wait until my life wasn't such a train wreck. I've been on the job hunt for about 7 months now, and it's getting old. I've applied to literally every facility in my town, and while I can get interviews and job shadows, it fizzles out from there. I just don't know what to do! Even the big level 1 trauma center doesn't want me, and they're known for taking anyone who's semi-competent! Because I can't get anywhere, I'm thinking of going back to school for CT or something to get a fresh start. submitted by /u/Sapper501 [link] [comments] source https://www.reddit.com/r/Radiology/comments/tpsm91/getting_into_radiology_after_a_2year_gap/

Question for CT techs- What do you call this type of artifacting? What causes it, and how would you fix it?

https://reddit.com/link/tld8ng/video/bfb28yas17p81/player I'm not a CT tech, I create 3D models from CT scans for surgical planning and custom 3D printed implants. I have an ok grasp of most things CT-wise but again, I've never trained or had experience as a technologist. Most types of artifacting I can identify or at least google if unsure, but for some reason I can't find anything resembling this. I generally just call it "cotton candy." We have certain protocols for every scan: Must be 1.25mm slice thickness or less No gantry tilt Must be axial No patient movement There's a few more but those are the relevant ones. So, with those protocols in effect, is this still avoidable? Is it a crappy CT scanner? A reconstruction issue? What implications does a low-tier DR residency have on career prospects?

I was devastated on Friday to open up my match results and see I ranked at my 13th of 18 ranks for DR. I go to a low-tier MD school but had an overall excellent app and I do not know how this happened. To give you context for how bad my program is, my PD reached out and basically asked how I ended up there. A chief resident texted me later and told me he understood if this wasn't my first pick but congrats. This was all unprompted, I never indicated to them I was unhappy. It's an academic program but really a private practice group with no prestige/pedigree, minimal research, etc. My goal is PP, but I would like to end up in a major city for the sake of my wife/kids. I feel like a total and complete failure ending up here and like I just destined myself to undesirable jobs because my program is so unimpressive. submitted by /u/DrTibbz [link] [comments] source https://www.reddit.com/r/Radiology/comments/tjgs4p/what_implications_does_a_lowtier_dr_residency/
