Can demyelination lesion volume be accurately determined in the following cervical MRI sequences?

Hi, I am a neurology intern getting started in multiple sclerosis research and for a beginner like me MRI is quite though matter and still learning a lot. Our centre scans the cervical spine in MS according to the following protocol for their regulair clinical MRI's: - Sagittal T2 TSE (FoV 200*200, matrix 256x320), slice 3mm and distance 3.3mm - Sagittal T1 TSE (FoV 200*200, matrix 224x320), slice 3mm and distance 3.3mm - Sagittal STIR (FoV 200*200, matrix 240x320), slice 3mm and distance 3.3mm - Axial T2-MEDIC (FoV 180*180, matrix 426x512), slice 3mm and distance 3.3mm I wondered if these sequences can be used to determine (with reasonable accuracy) MS lesion volume for the cervical spinal cord? Or is the gap (since that slice thickness is 3mm and distance 3.3) a problem for these? Or do the sequences even need to be isotropic in order to determine volumetric information? Thank you in advance for your insights! submitted by /u/donuber [link] [comments] source ht

Need light for life-changing decision

Hi all, I'm currently planning my m4 electives and I'm contemplating between general surgery and radiology. I enjoyed my time in the OR but I'm not sure if I'm ready for the reality of general surgery. As I'm trying to schedule electives around radiology, I always have this "you never going do surgery again" kind of thought. I'm wondering if any of you guys out there had similar kinds of thought when you decided to go into rads (doesn't have to be gen surg) and what would you tell your old self. Really appreciate your input. Thank you. submitted by /u/New-Atmosphere1366 [link] [comments] source https://www.reddit.com/r/Radiology/comments/ltqccq/need_light_for_lifechanging_decision/

Invitation to a shadow lab and what to ask and think of

Hi, I am hopefully starting an x-ray tech program this summer. I sent in my application about a month ago and now I've moved on in the process and been invited to a shadow lab at the school. This is exciting but I've never done anything like this before and I just want to know what I should ask (both students and instructors), how to behave in the lab etc. Anyone got any advice or wish you would've asked before starting the program? Do your fellow RT coworkers know how to do annual QC?

I’m in a small clinic so I am looking forward to your answers. My manager said that “only the strong techs” should be the ones performing the QCs. I don’t think that makes sense, I think all the techs should know how to do it. He asked me to create a step-by-step guide of the annual QC process. I wrote out instructions and included pictures for each step. I sent it to all the techs and my manager said that I shouldn’t of sent it to the other RTs, because “only the strong techs” should do it. submitted by /u/oneshotodontoid [link] [comments] source https://www.reddit.com/r/Radiology/comments/lt2p1e/do_your_fellow_rt_coworkers_know_how_to_do_annual/

Radiation exposure question

I had some dental x rays done today( the ones where you bite down and they point something at you) the nurse messed up multiple times and had to take about 7 to get a good image. ARRT EXAM

Hello everyone so I wanted to ask for help and if anyone has/had any ideas or suggestions for me on this page. So a bit of context from me, I’ve taken the registry twice already and scored a 74!!! Both times. I know crazy. The first time I just read the Lange book and tried to wing it and was quickly brought back to reality. Second time I took it in a month time, I rushed it because I had a job offer which required me to take it ASAP again was quickly brought back to reality... second time I payed for Rad tech boot camp which helped a lot with safety and image production. Now I’m taking things slow I got RADReview which I feel is challenging but is helping me with digital a lot. My biggest weakness is patient care and radiation safety I keep scoring a 6 in the score percentage smh patient care specifically is pharmaceutical portion of it and honestly idk what I’m getting wrong in radiation safety. If anyone has any study tips or things that can help with those two subjects specificall

How often to you have to place NG/dobhoff tubes with fluoroscopy for nurses?

At least a few times a week we have requests to place feeding tubes on patients either using fluoro in the department, or by dragging a c-arm into an ICU room with an RA and placing one. I’ve talked to other tech friends of mine who work at different facilities and they all seem confused as to why nurses need our help putting in feeding tubes, and that they’ve never had to do that where they work. Question about cancer staging during the night

Hi So I'm a Radiology resident at a tertiary center where most of our patients are unfortunately cancer patients. I was wondering whether other places face our same dilemma of getting abdominal CTs to look for something acute during the night but are also asked to do a CT CAP for staging while we're at it. We have a 24 hour on call system, not a night float. From the humanitarian side, I totally understand the utility of doing whole body scans to minimize radiation instead of getting an abdomen and pelvis then getting a CAP, and its just more efficient to get it done with. But during calls when you're already swamped with cases it could be so difficult to do a full staging and look for lymph nodes and nodules. I also feel its unfair for the patient, even though the attending will go back and read it. In our facility you can't only look at the acute findings over night and let the daytime radiologist do the staging later on even though it makes more sense for me thi

Questions about going into CT/MRI after x-ray school

Hey everyone! First of all I do plan to ask my clinical supervisor and program director about this, but am also curious to get all your opinions as well. I’ll be graduating x-ray school in July and am fairly confident I’d like to go into CT or MRI. I’m a little unsure about the best way to go about this. Start working somewhere in general x-ray and hope they’ll be willing to cross-train me in a different modality? Or just right away begin an MRI/CT program? What is the whole process of becoming certified in either modality like? I should add that my x-ray program fulfills the structured education requirements for CT, so theoretically all I have to do to become CT certified is complete the required clinical competencies and pass the CT board exam. submitted by /u/CatManifesto [link] [comments] source https://www.reddit.com/r/Radiology/comments/lp3t58/questions_about_going_into_ctmri_after_xray_school/

I’m freaking out man. I took my sonography arrt and overall score was passing but each section said you also need a 7.5 or above to pass even though the overall score is passing. I scored high above 7.5 on all sections except for obgyn section was a 7.4. Literally by half a point. Do you think my final results they could pass me ? Could I call and beg to be bumped up? I don’t understand. My overall score was an 80 and u need a 75 to pass but by sectional scores were all good except for obgyn part. I wanna call them Monday and ask honestly because I didn’t get my official scores yet. Any experience anyone? I’m hysterically crying over this all night. I studied so hard for this. Please tell me there is hope ... submitted by /u/Nova_lunaa [link] [comments] source https://www.reddit.com/r/Radiology/comments/lp3wq4/preliminary_score_im_panicking_please/

question about being referred on & multiple imaging

Hey, cool rads. Recently, dragged my 10y+ painful knee/leg to some docs - I'm now confused re: lmaging reports. My complaint is pain in L knee that wakens me from sleep and doesn't lessen with reduced activity, but does get worse with more activity. My question is do these imaging types compare apples to apples, and do any of these reports describe similar things? Does an MRI w/o contrast easily image a nerve sheath tumor or vascular anomaly? 1st: Went to large teaching hospital. Had US of superficial veins both legs. Didn't seem to explain problem, but.... 2nd: Back home, new PCP sent me to Vein center locally. US of both legs... Impression: There is a spherical 1.4x1.3x1.4cm vascular anomaly comprised of both arteries and veins with active blood flow located in the medial aspect of the left popliteal fossa and corresponding to an area that swells and is uncomfortable. (true, and only doc to relate finding to actual location/my complaint) 3rd. Vein Doc sent me for

Can anyone tell me why my infraorbital nerve area is so splotchy like that? I’m getting double jaw surgery and am wondering how high up you can cut cause it looks like I have a ton of holes in my maxilla instead of the single clean hole showed in skeletal diagrams.

Went to a Podiatrist for lack of dorsiflexion in my right ankle. Got X-Rays of both ankles and was told they don't see anything that can be limiting it. Looking at the X-Rays I see a difference between the left and right one (circled) can anyone explain what's the difference though?

Question on Hilar lymphadenopathy

Hi, Can you only use the term (bilateral) hilar lymphadenopathy when the lymph nodes are enlarged (in the chest x-ray) or can you also use the term if they are “only” more calcified than normal? Half a breathe.

I had an ER patient today, I took the PA Chest and noticed the O2 tubing was in the way. So I move it and tell them that i needed to repeat the image, the patient says to me: "ohkay, well I'm gonna take a medium breath this time, ok?" Uhm what 🥴😂 no Ma'am. A big breath please. She was serious too!! Haha. submitted by /u/Queeneeden [link] [comments] source https://www.reddit.com/r/Radiology/comments/ln2j4h/half_a_breathe/

Student Radiologic Technologist Podcast

Hey everyone. Im a radiologic technologist based in Texas and I was hoping to get your input/ideas. I was contemplating starting a podcast to help answer questions or concerns for student or beginning radiologic technologists. There seems to be a gap in possible education opportunities here. The community college that I was helping complete clinical instructor hours for reduced staffing due to COVID and I was looking to continue to educate in another way. Students--do you think this would help you? Any topics you would think would be beneficial to cover? submitted by /u/theshanaman [link] [comments] source https://www.reddit.com/r/Radiology/comments/lmttjd/student_radiologic_technologist_podcast/

How accurate is a radiographic image?

(I assume my previous post was deleted because it was considered a request for medical advice, so I'm rephrasing it.) If a radiographic image is taken of a specific area, is there a "focus" on this area (Meaning the edges of the image are too blurry or faded to detect anything there.), or is it possible to detect something relatively far from the image central point? submitted by /u/Bananorpion [link] [comments] source https://www.reddit.com/r/Radiology/comments/lmt525/how_accurate_is_a_radiographic_image/

Looking for user manual of Kevex PXS5-724

Hello! I am looking for a user manual (specifically a pinout) of the Kevex PXS5-724 microfocus source. Got an offer for a used unit with no documentation. Thermo Fischer doesn't reply to requests. I could only find a product datasheet with a drawing and some specs but no description of the pins on the analog interface. If someone has this tube or a similar one, I'd be very grateful if you could provide a pinout. submitted by /u/stdlogicvector [link] [comments] source https://www.reddit.com/r/Radiology/comments/lmopiz/looking_for_user_manual_of_kevex_pxs5724/

Should I continue radiology?

Hello people. I’m 27 yr old and I’m taking my prerequisites classes now so that I can apply for radiology in the fall. My gpa right now is 2.7 and honestly I’m not really great at memorizing but I try my best. Biology and anatomy seems a little bit difficult but again, I’m trying. I was just wondering, when you go to radiology program. Is it difficult? Is there tons of anatomy stuff I have to remember? Are there too much too to learn? Can an average intelligence person (sorry, idk how to explain that, I’m not stupid but not that book smart either) be able to finish and get a license in radiology? My program is 90 credits so that’ll take me 2 years if I quit my job and focus full time basically. After 2 years, do I have to go to a residency or I can start applying for jobs? I live in nyc btw I’m wondering if anyone knows what the job market for that is. I’m going for radiology x-ray techn btw. Thank you! Anything else you can point out that I missed would be a great help! submitte

Online Interventional Radiology courses or resources for Radiographers?

Hi all, I was wondering whether anyone would have any links to Radiographer specific online learning resources for Radiographers / Imaging Technologists they would be able to recommend? There are plenty of CT specific online courses, yet the only things I can find for IR, are all at post-graduate level, requiring year long enrolment etc. One can make do with textbook PDFs but it'd be good to see if anyone has suggestions of places or links? Thanks in advance. submitted by /u/pauca_loquitur [link] [comments] source https://www.reddit.com/r/Radiology/comments/lmc6ws/online_interventional_radiology_courses_or/

Is it like this everywhere?vent

I've been a ct technologist for almost a year now at this hospital and the environment is just so unhealthy. I started near the beginning of this pandemic and I have seen how passive aggressive my coworkers are with each other. I've seen nothing but gossiping constantly and how rude people answer back to each other, in terms of just generally speaking. I was told 7 people have left the past 3 years because of management and the more time I spend there, the more I see why. The constant favoritism of employees and how they try to work newbies like a dog while everyone else is sitting down on their phones. Management has absolutely no empathy or sympathy whatsoever when it comes to bringing up issues in the work area or person life. "The problems/management don't change, only the faces" is what one coworker told me who left somewhere else for a fulltime job. I've tried to be open minded and see the other perspective but it's not fair how the favor is neve
