Radiology app for Xray techs students?

Like this title says, does anyone know of any good apps for rad tech students? I found a few but they were kinda pricey. I am willing to pay for one If it’s for sure legit. So how do we feel about midlevels taking it upon themselves to act as their own radiologist and use POCUS to decide whether or not formal imaging is necessary? I'm curious what the radiology world thinks. Also what are your plans for when RNs/NPs put half of us out of work with the Butterfly system?

Looking for open image sets for machine learning radiomics

Hi there! I'm a research medical physicist working on some machine learning radiomics research and have run into a wall. I have a very small data set provided for me by my affiliated hospital, and it is just not enough to train the model for conclusive results. I have asked for more data, however, it is unclear when they will be able to provide it. I understand the physicists/clinicians in the hospital need to sort through and anonymize the patient images and they have packed schedules as is. I'm wondering if anyone here knows of an open image dataset I would be able to use to supplement my training set. I have looked through TCIA but would like to hear any suggestions you have! I'm looking for lung CT images, preferably over the course of treatment. I'm specifically looking at radiation induced tissue damage, and that has been the hardest thing to find in open source image sets. Thank you for any suggestions! submitted by /u/onechillpill [link] [comment

Does university ranking/ reputation matter on Radiography?

Texas radiology license question

I’m possibly looking to move to Texas at some point and was looking over the requirements to get their state RT license. Is it just me or does it seem like a lot? What is your opinion on performing stat ultrasound for first trimester OB scans without first having the HCG back?

Hello! I am a sonographer and I have a question for fellow sonographers or radiologists. What is your opinion on performing stat ultrasound for first trimester OB scans without first having the HCG results back? So many times I have to scan these without the labs and it feels irresponsible to me. I was always taught in ultrasound school that the best indicator to search for an ectopic is the HCG but seeing no IUP. So often we have these scans and it turns out the woman was not actually pregnant or far too early to see anything. How would I know to search for an ectopic without the HCG results? I’ve very rarely heard of a tech finding an ectopic without specifically searching for it due to the HCG results and then also not seeing an IUP. submitted by /u/sunbear1994 [link] [comments] source https://www.reddit.com/r/Radiology/comments/l7j891/what_is_your_opinion_on_performing_stat/

I passed the ARRT and don’t really have anyone to tell.

A month before I graduated from my radiography program, I gave birth to twins. Being a first time mom to twins and a really challenging case of PPD made me postpone my registry exam. That was two years ago. I pushed my registry back so far that I developed severe test anxiety, and then the pandemic started. After getting help with my anxiety, I studied for two months straight and took my test. I expected to fail the first try, but I passed. I don’t really have anyone to tell. I’m proud of myself for the first time in a long time, and I just wanted to share with someone. I have an interview with a great hospital tomorrow morning. Insight on the workplace (today's way of shadowing I guess)

Hello! I just wanted to get some insight into the radiology pathway. I am currently a Pre-medical student and I absolutely want to be a physician in the future. Although, I don't really love the patient interaction aspect of being a physician so I am looking into medical pathways that don't necessarily require tons of it. Do radiologists do a lot of patient interactions on a daily basis? What does an average day look like as a radiologist? Does a radiologist participate/conduct a lot of research? What is one thing that you (as a radiologist) wish you did as a pre-medical student to better prepare yourself for this position? Academic Study about COVID-19 PPE Availability, Safety Perceptions, and Burnout

I posted this a while back and wanted to thank everybody who responded! We're getting ready to wrap things up shortly so I wanted to reach out one last time in the hopes we can get a few more responses and make our study as meaningful as possible! I am part of the University of Pennsylvania Occupational Medicine Residency program and we are conducting an online study trying to learn more about COVID-19 PPE availability, perceptions, and burnout. We are an IRB approved study and are not collecting any personally identifying information. We are trying to include feedback from many different groups within the medical community so we can better understand PPE availability nationwide as well as how this is impacting healthcare professionals and things like burnout. If you have a few minutes to help, please take our survey. Feel free to share with anybody you know who also works in healthcare. We are hoping the results from this study can lead to improvements in future policies. http

Multiple X-ray exams on a short period of time

Hi, I’m followed my 2 surgeons for my scoliosis. I have to do the same scoliosis X-ray for the third time, in less than a few weeks. I did a first X-ray (that I did in hospital A). The first surgeon told me that due to the posture they told me to have on the X-ray was wrong and he couldn’t properly diagnose me, so he recommended seeing me again in a year with a new X-ray. However I have an appointment with another surgeon in a week, so I decided to make a new X-ray in another hospital, as I knew the 1st X-ray was not properly done. This time the curve looks quite different from the 1st X-ray! So we are quite confused. I’m seeing the 2nd surgeon in a week. His secretary recommended us to have an X-ray at their hospital directly - as they work hand-in-hand with the surgeon. But is it really necessary? I tend to think that 2 X-rays are enough - I know that it’s about the benefit/risk ratio, but I feel like 3 X-rays in a few weeks is quite a lot. Important note: those are EOS radi

Is there an in between or another potential career path that might work? submitted by /u/Jenbrown0210 [link] [comments] source https://www.reddit.com/r/Radiology/comments/l3loz0/is_there_some_sort_of_radiologist_assistant/

Peds Rads Question - X-rays for DDH?

Hello, What are the x-ray(s) typically ordered to assess a 10 month old to rule out DDH? (not a confirmed DDH case that you are following) I have read one AP Pelvis X-ray is all you require. However, traditionally, I believe you need an AP Pelvis X-ray and Frog leg view. What is the standard of practice now? submitted by /u/Soccer_1998 [link] [comments] source https://www.reddit.com/r/Radiology/comments/l3hz35/peds_rads_question_xrays_for_ddh/

Talking to parents about contrast materials / radiation

Hey gang, Lurking PA that works in the ED. I enjoy this sub. I very frequently have conversations with parents about radiation exposure that comes along with imaging (think CT head meeting PECARN criteria or abdomen/pelvis for appy rule outs). I feel comfortable with that conversation. What was harder for me to answer yesterday was a mom’s concern about what specific ingredients are in the contrast dye and are they safe. I explained we are typically used iohexol which contains iodine, but struggled to make things relatable and less biochemistry-esque. We discussed possible side effects. She explained they follow a very healthy lifestyle at home and don’t put anything “unnatural” into their bodies (😒). She finally agreed to the scan and kiddo did fine. TLDR: How would you simply explain the components of contrast dye for CT imaging to a parent concerned about toxicity / side effects? Thanks for what you guys do! submitted by /u/robije [link] [comments] source https://

Pros/cons of working at a small county hospital?

MRI tech here! I had a job interview at a county hospital. It’s basically an outpatient clinic because there are only 25 inpatient beds lol. For 3 years I’ve been working at a very busy 500 bed hospital doing weekends, holidays, call, etc. At this new job, I would be expected to also help out with CT and X ray. She said they maybe do 5 MRI exams a day. What blows my mind is that I would get paid more at this place! Does anyone have any experience with this time of work environment? Is it incredibly boring, or is the pace refreshing? submitted by /u/jennaG0 [link] [comments] source https://www.reddit.com/r/Radiology/comments/l3chtp/proscons_of_working_at_a_small_county_hospital/

Let me Know if this Off-Topic Okay? I had a Question though: 30F (and Somewhat of a RP) What are Some Signs of a Past Pregnancy that can be Seen on Imaging?

Quite a few years ago I used to go to a clinic and we discussed having imaging done to check for cysts (I was also having frequent urinary and vaginal infections at the time). I am wondering if any imaging such as CT, XRAY, MRI, FMRI would show possible changes that could've revealed a past pregnancy. If you look through my profile posts, you'll see that I mention possibly having been raped (though there was no one there (that I could see)) and also having been raped before (but without complete sexual penetration). I have a loss of time (and memories) but have never given birth or even had sexual intercourse. I have a lot of changes to my vaginal area that for me are not normal and could be normal for someone who had children? submitted by /u/AJobWellDid [link] [comments] source https://www.reddit.com/r/Radiology/comments/l347w5/let_me_know_if_this_offtopic_okay_i_had_a/

Passed the ARRT after 3 years!

I graduated from my program in Dec 2017. I am a tech in the military and we don't have to be certified and don't get an associates through the program. Going into the exam I was extremely nervous because I had been out of school for so long. I used Lange (yellow book) and Rad Review to study. It feels amazing to finally be certified and I just wanted to share! submitted by /u/acomputermistake [link] [comments] source https://www.reddit.com/r/Radiology/comments/l31p15/passed_the_arrt_after_3_years/

Injuries as a mammo tech?

Hi everyone, I got into a radiology tech program which ends in a modality so you get to pick ct/mri/mammo tech. I was a cna and a patient I got stuck lifting alone (I'm barely 100 pounds) shoved my right shoulder back and tore up my body. I know have back issues in btwn my shoulder blades and muscle loss. And prone to so many spasms. The school I got into is willing to work with me which is great and told me to look into mammo tech bc depending on the hospital ct/mri/cardiac cath would require lifting or a lot of lead wearing. I can't shadow anyone right now b/c of covid. I was wondering if there were any mammo techs who has had issues with lifting heavy patients esp in the hosptial? Or had difficulty with positioning? Or sustained long term injuries due to their job? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. submitted by /u/Terrible_Chest_7156 [link] [comments] source https://www.reddit.com/r/Radiology/comments/l2t2z2/injuries_as_a_mammo_tech/

R1 choosing a fellowship

I’m an R1 thinking about fellowship. It seems like most people choose MSK, Body or Neuro. I like the idea of body but I am wondering about doing a less “popular” fellowship. I have enjoyed nuclear medicine, cardiothoracic imaging, ultrasound, emergency radiology. Does doing one of these fellowships make you less marketable? Is there demand for these? Would I be restricted to finding jobs only at large academic centers? I appreciate the input! submitted by /u/yosdogattacc [link] [comments] source https://www.reddit.com/r/Radiology/comments/l2ngz3/r1_choosing_a_fellowship/

Student looking into medical imaging

Hello guys! I’m a student looking into medical imaging, I know about most of the other modalities, but I was wondering the differences between Positron Emission Tomography and Nuclear Medicine, and what they do on a daily basis. Anything information helps, I just want to make sure I’m looking at all my options. Thank you! submitted by /u/tatertot-59 [link] [comments] source https://www.reddit.com/r/Radiology/comments/l2i0tn/student_looking_into_medical_imaging/

Nuc Med?

Why does no one seem to care for nuclear medicine anymore? I chose to rotate through the nuc med department at the hospital I’m interning at and all the rad techs were like, “ugh why?”. I thought it was really interesting and if I wasn’t going for sono I would def look into nuc med. submitted by /u/allisonb19 [link] [comments] source https://www.reddit.com/r/Radiology/comments/l2fmel/nuc_med/
