Chaffey College (CA) Radiologic Science?

Have you guys heard anything about this program? I’m super interested in pursing this field & they program but I was just wondering if it’s good here? So does anyone know any info on it? :0 is it worth it? Or is there a waitlist? Which master program prior to radiology residency for IMG?

Hello, everyone I would greatly appreciate your advice. I am a non-US IMG, old grad (2009), step 1 245, 2CK 261, ecfmg-certified. IM background in my home country. I want to get into Radiology, no Radiology experience. I don't want to go into IM. Honestly, I don't have enough money for USCE or research, but my country can sponsor a Master (of science) program in the USA. My question is if I do a Master in Bioimaging (one program at Boston University which can be sponsored) do you think that will increase my chances of getting into Radiology residency? The master's program requires TOEFL, GRE. In Bioimaging, they teach the basics of human imaging (CT, MRI), anatomy, ethics, protection, etc. In return for sponsoring me, I will have to work in my home country for 3-5 years or return the money for education, which can be done in the case of matching into Radiology. Some advise a master's in Medical Physics (but it's long 2 ys and tough), what about a Master's in C

Is MRI right for me?

I’ve been going through a lot of job descriptions and pros and cons and I still can’t decide if MRI tech is right for me. What are some things that I have to ask myself in order to figure out if MRI tech is right for me? I see in a lot of job descriptions that critical thinking is necessary in order to be an MRI tech but what do they mean by that and what situation would I have to critical think. Of all my jobs that I’ve had I find that I work best in situations that I’m very knowledgeable and experienced in I don’t really like jobs in where I don’t feel knowledgeable in. I want to feel confident in the job that I’m doing. I don’t want to feel like I’m constantly second-guessing myself or that Im doing something wrong. submitted by /u/yesmanoy [link] [comments] source https://www.reddit.com/r/Radiology/comments/uduk4p/is_mri_right_for_me/

Jaded about radiography

Jaded about the field of radiography. Need insight or words of wisdom. I feel like I have made a mistake going into this field… I am a student just getting done my 2nd semester of rad tech school. I feel like I don’t like anything about the field nor the day to day work of being an X-ray tech. I hate the boringness of just sitting around most of the day. Then when we do have an X-ray, I hate actually doing it. I hate having to move the patient around and set them up and have to think of the different angles and positioning when they cannot do what you want them to. I hate it and it feels monotonous. I chose to go to rad tech school without shadowing (thanks Covid) and doing some minimal research after being lost about what I wanted to do after graduating college and working some menial jobs in insurance and medical billing for a few years. I wanted to get out of an office job and work with patients hands on. I thought I would like utilizing the technology and critical thinking of kn

Overlay MR-Perfusion with „classical“ images

Hello everyone, I hope this post does not break any of the rules of this subreddit. This is a question mainly addressed to Neuroradiologists among here. We have 2 Siemens MR devices in our institute and we routinely use MR-Perfusion in neurooncological cases. In many studies and cases online I have seen that there is a way how to overlay the perfusion (CBV) images with classical sequences such as T2 or T1 C+. Yet on our devices neither me or any of my colleagues have been able to get this done. Is there anyone here that has experience with that or can help us with it? submitted by /u/gomer95 [link] [comments] source https://www.reddit.com/r/Radiology/comments/ubhru5/overlay_mrperfusion_with_classical_images/

Indecisive person considering radiology specialty

Hello, newly graduated doctor here. I am considering choosing radiology as my future career however I have some doubts whether it would be the right choice for me. -I have always been an obsessive and indecive person… my obsession has come in handy before for finding out stuff other people have missed on scans I ve read during my general practice. On the other hand me being indecisive makes me worried that I will have trouble giving reports and get obsessed about whether I read a scan right and did not miss anything etc… Otherwise the minimal ptient contact and decent work/life balance are great points for me. Do you think my fear is unneeded? Will I get used to it and stop being indecisive in time? English isnt my main language but I did my best. Thank you :) and sorry if this was not the right place to ask this submitted by /u/LatterRow [link] [comments] source https://www.reddit.com/r/Radiology/comments/uaz1vq/indecisive_person_considering_radiology_specialty/

Student audit proposal

Hello to all, I’m a final year student and we have an assignment to do about proposing a radiological audit. I was hoping to get an opinion on some topics I was considering? Audit on the application of elbow extension tests regarding patients who present with elbow trauma. Audit on the amount of abdominal x-rays referred due to obstruction but end up in Ct anyway? Would basically be an audit on total amount and utility/ability of abdo x-ray’s to diagnose obstruction and if it is worth it given they go to Ct anyway. Any other ideas would be welcome. Working in Dubai as CT/MRI radiographer - looking for some guidance!

Hi everybody, I’m a HCPC registered, trained CT & MRI radiographer interested in working abroad. Being in the UK, my partner and I wouldn’t want to move too far from family (i.e. Canada, Australia) but are interested in moving and living in Dubai as expats. Does anybody have any experience working as a radiographer in my specialties over there? What I’ve found online regarding salary seems to be varying in information. Some sites say salary can be expected to be around 5-8000AED/m, with another site saying salary can be expected to be 160,000AED/year. I did read that salary in this field does vary if you can work in other imaging modalities, like myself. Given that the majority of your earnings are tax free, I wouldn’t mind the thought of a ‘pay cut’ in gross terms (currently gross salary is around £45,000) but if anybody has any experience in the process of moving there, or knowledge of what to expect a bit more specifically salary wise that would be much appreciated! Thanks

How relevant are those "blank scan is the equivalent to this amount of time on a plane flight or this amount of time in the sun" type infographics?

Whenever people question the safety of getting xrays or scans done I almost always see someone bring out the amount of radiation and then compare that to how many hours of sunlight or plane ride its equivalent too. The most recent one I saw was someone saying getting a dental CBCT is like a fraction of a couple hours flight. Is that true? There are people that fly around for a living, is it really the same as getting like 2-3 scans a day or something? people always talk about radiation concerns from x-rays but literally no one ever brings up flight or sun time numbers. submitted by /u/AnxiousAnal [link] [comments] source https://www.reddit.com/r/Radiology/comments/ua0rzy/how_relevant_are_those_blank_scan_is_the/

Rad tech to Radiologist?

Hello everyone, I’m applying to Rad Tech school at the end of this year (3.8 gpa, 2 years of hospital experience plus plenty of other proper credentials) and was wondering, if I got a bachelors in Radiologic Technologies, what steps would I need to take/what are the possibilities of getting into medical school with said degree. Would I need to take more biology, chemistry or math classes on top of my degree? What would be the best process for studying for the MCAT? Should I change my major to something such as Chem or BIO? I’ve already been reading up on radiology books as well as looking over MCAT study tips, test questions, etc. I’ve heard that it’s possible, but I want to stick with my current path so that I can make some money while I finish my bachelors. And thoughts, tips, and ideas will help. Xray Boards.. need words of encouragement :/

Does anyone have any good advice to calm my nerves down? I take my boards in 30 days and I've just been worrying way too much. I mainly use RadReview to study and I've almost done all of their questions, I do them in like 30 question intervals. but I did a mock recently I made myself on there and got a 65. In class we've taken 3 mocks so far and I've gotten (in order) 70, 72, and another 72. Our professor will round our grades though so they all ended up being in the 80s. I use radtechbootcamp too (did a couple of mocks on there and got over 75s each time) and my prof said to not used the questions from there because they aren't challenging enough... idk lmao. But when I take the mocks I literally flag 80 questions and I feel I don't know anything. All I do know is I have never been this stressed before in my LIFE LMFAO. Obviously, during my program I was a little stressed, but now that ik my career is on the line it's making it all the more stressful.....

No Accredited Sonography Programs in my Area?

Goodmorning y’all! This may be a very specific question, but I’m hoping someone will be able to give some guidance haha. I am currently active duty military in the San Diego area, but am getting out soon. I would love to become a sonographer, but UCSD’s diagnostic medical sonography program is inactive and the other closest CAAHEP accredited programs are way up north in the LA/Orange county area. I know PIMA Medical Institute offers a program but they are NOT accredited and I’ve heard some bad things about them. What are my options? Right now I’m debating on applying to the rad tech program at SD Mesa as a last resort then HOPE I can find a program after at least getting my associate of science to get a step in the right direction. How To Verify Accuracy of FreeSurfer Cortical Reconstructions

I have been working with Freesurfer running reconstructions on Mp2rage MRI data for an internship, and while I think I have been able to figure out how to correctly skullstrip the noisy Mp2Rage image, the professor I am doing the internship with has said that the aseg and aparc results of the reconstruction are not totally accurate. I'm not sure why, although I suspect it's because the skullstrip still has some noise around the edges. I'm going to try brainvoyager or premade matlab scripts to denoise the mp2rage image rather than doing it manually by multiplying the mask generated for the skullstrip of the inversion pulse with the original image. However, even if I figure out this issue I will still need a way to check my results. I am able to tell that the major structures of the brain are in the right place, but the professor told me this is not enough to verify that the reconstruction is an accurate representation of the original MRI data (which makes sense).
